NW3
Why NW3?
Green School Runs began its work in NW3 in 2017, thus focusing on one of the most complex areas for school transport in the UK.
A Unique School Landscape
The North side of the borough of Camden - covering Frognal, Belsize, and Hampstead wards - is home to a remarkable concentration of schools, with over 30 schools and approximately 8,000 students within just a few square miles. Many of these are independent schools without catchment areas, meaning a large proportion of pupils travel by car, often over long distances, adding significantly to local congestion and air pollution.
Local Challenge, National Relevance
While NW3 presents unique challenges, it also offers unique opportunities. Its dense cluster of schools and high levels of car dependency make it a critical testing ground for innovative solutions to the school run. If we can find sustainable school transport strategies that work here, we believe they can be adapted and replicated in other parts of the country facing similar issues.
By working in NW3, we’re not only helping this community - we’re laying the groundwork for a broader, national shift toward cleaner, safer, and more sustainable school travel.
