About Us

Green School Runs is a UK registered charity (No. 1189167) founded in London NW3 by a group of parents concerned with poor air quality caused by traffic congestion in Hampstead, North London.

Hampstead has the highest concentration of schools in Europe, with 21 schools within a half a mile radius. A wealth of data on air quality in NW3 has been collected and it shows a clear correlation between school run hours and the number of vehicles on the road.

Green School Runs is an outcome-focused group who encourages local schools, parents and authorities to implement practical solutions to reduce traffic and air pollution in NW3, especially those linked with the school run.

Our current projects include:

  • promoting active school travel options, like walking buses

  • reducing traffic around schools, through park and stride and school bus initiatives

  • engaging with schools, to raise awareness of air pollution and promote schemes that incentive active school transport

  • engaging with other groups and authorities working in the space of air pollution and transport to promote more environmentally responsible travel choices

Our Vision

Clean air for everyone in cities where citizens can walk, cycle or use public transport easily and safely.
