Healthy Journeys, Healthy Air
Project overview
In January 2026, Green School Runs launched a new project, “Healthy Journeys, Healthy Air”, aimed at improving our understanding of local air quality in the north of the London Borough of Camden, the factors that contribute to air pollution, and the strategies that can help reduce it.
As part of the project, three Breathe London air quality sensors were installed in January 2026 across the Frognal, Hampstead Town and Belsize wards. These sensors measure nitrogen dioxide (NO₂) and fine particulate matter (PM2.5), pollutants strongly linked to respiratory and cardiovascular disease, and to childhood asthma.
The sensors provide hour-by-hour, real-time data, which is publicly accessible online. Making this data open empowers residents, schools and decision-makers to better understand local air quality and the impact of traffic and street-level interventions.
Live air quality data is available at:
Frognal sensor:

Hampstead sensor:

Belsize sensor:

Over the course of a full year, we will analyse this air quality data alongside other available datasets to build a detailed picture of air pollution in Hampstead. This evidence will be used to inform practical, community-led recommendations and policy interventions to improve the quality of the air we all breathe.
