Cycling on Hampstead Heath

Our Campaign

Hampstead Heath is one of North London’s most cherished wild green spaces.

Green School Runs fully supports the efforts of the City of London Corporation and the Heath & Hampstead Society to protect and preserve this unique natural environment, for current and future generations.

However, we believe the local community would greatly benefit from opening up a few additional routes through the Heath for children and their carers to cycle during school run hours only.

This would enable more families and students to cycle using safe, direct routes to school, thus encouraging active travel while reducing traffic congestion and air pollution on the roads surrounding the park, which currently lack safe cycling infrastructure.

Over the past few years, we have been campaigning with the City of London Corporation and the Heath & Hampstead Society to open up three more cycle routes for children and their carers during school run hours. Our full proposal, including the map below showing the routes we believe should be opened to cycling, can be found here
